Before you start

It costs £34 to apply online. You can pay by MasterCard, Visa, Electron or Delta debit or credit card.

You’ll need to provide:

• an identity document unless you have a valid UK biometric passport
• addresses where you’ve lived over the last 3 years
• your National Insurance number if you know it

You’ll get a confirmation email from DVLA after you’ve applied. You might be asked to take part in research by email, but you can opt out.

View or share your UK driving license information

You can use this service to:

• view your driving record, for example vehicles you can drive
• check your penalty points or disqualifications
• create a license ‘check code’ to share your driving record with someone, for example a car hire company

The check code will be valid for 21 days.

You’ll need:

• your UK driving license number
• your National Insurance number
• the postcode on your driving license

Tell DVLA you’ve changed address: step by step

You must update your driving license, vehicle log book (V5C), Direct Debit for vehicle tax and other details when you move home. You do not need to tell us if you move temporarily (for example you’re living away at university) if we can still contact you at your permanent address. UK Drivers License Online

Replace a lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed driving license

You should contact the police if your driving license is stolen.

To replace your license you’ll need to:

• be a resident of Great Britain (there’s a different service in Northern Ireland)
• not be disqualified from driving for any reason
• pay £20 by MasterCard, Visa, Electron or Delta debit or credit card
• provide addresses where you’ve lived for the last 3 years

Provide your driving license number, National Insurance number and passport number if you know them.

Your photo

DVLA will use your passport photo for your new license if all the following are true:

• your driving license is due to expire within 2 years
• you have a valid UK passport – you’ll need to provide your passport number
• you give permission for DVLA to use your photo

DVLA will tell you if a suitable electronic photo is not available. They’ll send you a form so you can give them a new photo. UK Drivers License Online

What to do if you find your old license later

You must return your old license to DVLA explaining what’s happened if you find it after applying for or receiving a replacement.

You cannot apply online if your name or title has changed. UK Drivers License Online

You must renew a photocard license every 10 years – you’ll receive a reminder before your current license ends. UK Drivers License Online

What you need

To renew online, you need:

• a valid UK passport
• to be a resident of Great Britain – there’s a different service in Northern Ireland
• to pay £14 by MasterCard, Visa, Electron or Delta debit or credit card (there’s no fee if you’re over 70 or have a medical short period license)
• addresses of where you’ve lived over the last 3 years
• your current driving license (if you do not have your license you must say why in your application)
• your National Insurance number (if you know it)
• to not be disqualified from driving

How long it takes

It may take longer than 3 weeks for you to get your license because of coronavirus (COVID-19). UK Drivers License Online

Your new license will be valid from the date your application is approved, not from the expiry date of your current license.
